When launching SSM, you may find that the page does not load or loads partially.

Before attempting any of the below actions please check that SIMS Service Manager is running in services.msc, Should the issues persist following a restart of the service, reboot the machine and check again. If a reboot does not resolve the issue, please work through the checks below.

  • If a proxy is in use, this will need to be configured in SSM.

To confirm if a proxy is in use:

    1. Launch Internet Options from the Control Panel.

    2. Select Connections, then LAN Settings. If a proxy is in use, it must be configured in SSM.

    3. Launch SIMS Services Manager and navigate to the Settings page.

    4. You can then tick ‘Use Proxy Settings’ and enter the required configuration.

  • The minimum .NET Framework version required is 4.72.

You can run the following command via Command Prompt to confirm the .NET Framework version.

    reg query "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Net Framework Setup\NDP" /s

Under the heading ‘HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Net Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full’, you will find the version number at the bottom.

To ensure you are on the latest available .NET Framework version, please ensure the machine is up to date with Windows Updates.

Should you need to install .NET Framework manually; you can find the available installers here.

You may also find there are issues with the .NET Framework installation, which require repair - to rule this out, you can run the Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool, which can be found here.

  • You may find an ‘Error with Settings file’ message appears when opening SSM. Note that this procedure will wipe the existing SSM configuration and you will need to re-enter activation keys/Client ID and Secrets which can be found in the administrator page of the product – take a note of these items before proceeding

    1. Rename the Settings.xml located in C:\ProgramData\SIMS\SIMS Services Manager.

    2. Restart the SIMS Services Manager service in services.msc.

    3. You will then need to launch SSM and reconfigure the settings page and any of the required packages.

  • When trying to launch SIMS Services Manager using Internet Explorer, you receive a “This page cannot be displayed” error - if using Google Chrome, you will receive a "This site can't be reached. localhost refused to connect." When looking in the servicehost log files, you see the error “Port (e.g. 50000) is in use”.

The port number that SIMS Services Manager uses can be edited manually by completing the steps below:

    1. Go to Administrative Tools > Services and then stop the "SIMS Services Manager Service".

    2. Then, go to C:\Program Data\SIMS\SIMS Services Manager\Packages\HostService\SIMSServiceHost\1.4.6.11.  (or the latest version)

    3. Open the 'SIMSServiceHost.dll.Config' using Notepad. Locate the following line:
      < add key="webInterfacePort" value="50000"/>
Amend this so that it says the actual pot number that SSM is using, instead of 50000. For example:
      < add key="webInterfacePort" value="60000"/>

    4. Save this and go to C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\SIMS Services Manager. Right-click on the SIMS Services Manager Internet application and click properties. Change the http://Localhost:50000 so it says the correct port number (e.g. http://Localhost:60000) and then click OK.

    5. If you have any older folders within C:\ProgramData\SIMS\SIMS Services Manager\Packages\HostService\SimsServiceHost (Such as 1.4.6.7\), then please carry out the following steps. If you just have one folder within the location, then refer to Point 6
      Open the SimsServiceHost.dll.config
Change the line <add key="webInterfacePort" value="50000"/> so that it has 60000 in it and looks like this <add key="webInterfacePort" value="60000"/>
      Then save and close it.

    6. Then go to Administrative Tools > Services and start the SIMS Services Manager Service. You should then be able to access the site now.

If the steps above have been followed correctly on the server but the error persists, please log a call using the form here providing a copy of the latest service host[Data].log file

  • You may find the service for SIMS Services Manager is stopping routinely post start/restart. Should this be the case

    • Address potential issues with .NET Framework as advised above.

    • Reboot the machine.

    • Attempt a reinstallation of SSM – download here SSM Version 1.4.8.0.

    • Investigate the contents of Event Viewer for possible causes.

If the issue persists, please raise a case by mailing support@osmis.co.uk
