Provision Mapping in SIMS

SIMS will not have a solution to record and analyse costed provisions available to schools before January 2016.

In order to meet the needs of schools pending the release of the software, we recommend a configuration of SIMS Assessment be used to record and manage the application of provisions to students.

The following assumes some knowledge of the use of SIMS Assessment but, we feel, provides the most efficient route to managing the application of additional provision and the costs associated.

Following some development and much good work with schools, please see below the latest approach to this.

The important points to note are these:

  • All aspects names must have the same prefix - we have used the prefix zPM but your school is free to use any prefix you choose as long as the prefix is not used on any other aspect present.
  • You should edit the provided report definition to extract results stored in aspects using this prefix.
  • You should edit the report to define the location of the report produced - this should be in a location to which access is controlled as the data it contains is sensitive. You should edit the code in the spreadsheet to access the txt file in this location.
  • The names of the aspects you use must be replicated character for character on the analysis spreadsheet.

Please mail simssupport@osmis.co.uk with any problems you have or with any suggestions for improvements you would like to see developed.

Before you begin, please take the time to define the range of provisions you provide and an approximate maximum number of times the provision could be applied to any child. You can make use of the pro-forma available here

Step 1 - Creating SIMS Assessment components to record provisions

Step 2 - Importing and amending the report

Step 3 - Running the Excel analysis
