Check if the BAV services are available, browse to Tools>Setups>Sims services, Bulk Address Service should be present under Sims.net Services. If unavailable please log a call and request Patch 26889 – Sims License Activator Patch.

Creating a Scheduled Task

On the SIMS Server, Launch Sims.net and browse to Tools>Housekeeping>Bulk Address Validation scheduler:-

  1. Select the days and time when you would like the task to run.

  2. Add Proxy details if required, Check IE settings if uncertain.

  3. Click test connection at bottom of page and ensure a successful connection occurs.

  4. Once happy with the settings, click save and a scheduled task will be created in Windows Task Scheduler.

Creating a Batch File of Addresses to be Validated

  1. Browse to Tools>Housekeeping>Bulk Address Tools>Bulk Address Validation > Export>Students and contacts and click search

  2. Select the Students amongst the list provided, use drop down lists to filter selection

  3. Once Students have been selected, click Save and this will create a batch file.

Checking the Batch File and Importing Addresses

  1. Browse to Tools>housekeeping>bulk Address Tools> Bulk Address Validation Import and click Search.

  2. A file should be present with the Import Status showing as ‘Received’.

  3. Double click file and this will show a list of all the matched addresses, check that all addresses are there, proceed to click save.

  4. Once Save has been clicked the Addresses are then setup in Sims and the validation process has completed.

Dealing with a Batch File Stuck as Sent Error on the Server

In event viewer select Windows logs>Application and in the right pane search for ‘BAV’ within the Source column. This will provide you with an error message to investigate.

“General SQL error” – Load SQL server Configuration manager, down left hand pane expand SQL server network config> Select Protocols for (SQL instance)> in the right hand pane check ‘Named Pipes’ is enabled.
If error is still occurring, Browse to C:\ or D:\programfiles\microsoft SQL Server\(SQL Instance)\MSSQL\Binn and locate file ‘BulkAddressConsole’> Right click Properties>Security tab and give full permissions to run this file.
