Changing the Location of the PDOXUSRS file

This procedure addresses issues with unhandled exception errors in FMS

When attempting to open the Order or Invoice processing sections you may receive an error which stops you. The most likely cause of this is that the user does not have access to modify the PDOXUSRS.NET which is usually found in the root of the C:\ drive.

When using newer operating systems, the security system (UAC) by default does not allow modifying files stored in the root of the C:\ drive. Whilst you can change the settings of UAC to allow the users to access and modify this file, for security reasons it is NOT RECOMMENDED that make any changes. It is also possible that any changes you may make could later be undone due to Microsoft Windows updates being installed.

The recommended way to resolve the problem is to move the PDOXUSRS.NET file to a location that the user has Read\Write access to. Moving the File: First, create a folder that will be used hold the PDOXUSRS.NET file. For this document a folder will be created in the root of the C:\ drive called “Lockdir”. Wherever you place the folder it is important that the user who is encountering the error has been granted Read\Write access. This can be achieved by modifying the security permissions of the folder and adding either the individual user account, or a group of users that need access (eg. Domain Users).

Once the folder has been created and the permissions changed successfully, open “BDE Administrator” from Control Panel on the affected machine (This can be done by opening Control Panel and searching for “BDE”).

Once the BDE Administrator program is open, on the left hand pane navigate to Configuration>Drivers>Native>Paradox

On the right hand pane, double click on the “NET DIR” section and using the browse window select the folder that was created at the beginning of this procedure.

When you have selected the folder you require click OK. To save the settings you have made click on the looped blue arrow on the toolbar in the top left corner of the window. Click ok on the “Save all edits to PARADOX” window and close the “BDE Administrator” window.

The next time FMS is opened and the Order or Invoice Processing sections are accessed a new PDOXUSRS.NET file will be created in the folder specified above. Once this has been created you can safely delete the file in the root of the C:\ drive. Please note you will likely need to do this as a user with administrator level permissions
