How to Apply a Patch Using DBUpgrade

Please note that patches are applied by OSMIS in schools subscribing to the remote upgrade service.

Other schools may on occasion be asked to apply a patch to their SIMS system to resolve an issue or to release functionality. If the patch is available for application using SOLUS, you will be asked to run SOLUS just as you would when applying an upgrade to apply the patch.

If the patch is not available on SOLUS 3, we will send you a copy of the patch for application using dBUpgrade.

The patch file will be sent to you as a zip file attached to an e-mail or posted to
the OSMIS web site. Please save this zip file to the PC you are working from.

Create a folder on the school’s SIMS server to store the patch. You could call this folder SIMS Patch - but any name will do as long as you can find it. The patch will comprise two files; the database upgrade and associated signature file.

Ensure that you have taken a backup of your SIMS system and have exclusive use of the SIMS system whilst carrying out this process.

  1. Run Start \ Programs \ SIMS Applications \ DBUpgrade

  2. Browse to the location of the upgrade file you have saved

  3. Set the Server Name and Database Name to those as in the connect.ini file

  4. Enter your SIMS user name and password. You must be a member of the System Manager group.

  5. Click Login

  6. The upgrade will appear in the lower section of the window.

  7. Click Install to run the database upgrade
