SIMS Interventions

Course overview

SIMS Interventions is a system to record and track underperforming students, allocate additional resources and monitor how those resources affect Key Performance Indicators. Interventions allows schools to record how much those resources cost, so that outcomes can be tracked against cost as well as against impact. Learn how to implement the approach successfully on this one day course.

Benefits of attending

This SIMS module is designed to allow intervention organisers, facilitators and analysers to plan, implement and review interventions that form part of the school's strategies for Assessment, Attendance and Behaviour/Achievement. The cost, benefit and overall effectiveness on pupil performance can be analysed and compared to other interventions. In-depth analysis can be performed of individual intervention effectiveness for different groups, for example ethnicity and pupil premium. It will also provide an individual pupil summary of which interventions are most effective.

What you will learn

By the end of the course you will be able to:
• define interventions, and capture and understand basic cost information
• set up when the intervention will take place, who will run it and allocate students to the intervention for a specific period of time
• add an intervention to an individual student
• record whether an intervention has been effective for an individual student
• record a target for an individual student
• review interventions against assessment data
• review which intervention is the most effective
• view/edit all interventions against an individual student
• analyse the intervention group in Discover
• analyse intervention information in an Assessment Marksheet and the Programme of Study
• create reports on the interventions through the reporting dictionary
• create analysis reports to provide to Ofsted or an LA as evidence of which students have which interventions and which interventions are most effective
• enhance Discover to pull through information on the interventions being run in the school.

Who is it for?

This course is aimed at staff responsible for the setup and maintenance of interventions within SIMS including Data Manager, SENCO and Administrative Staff.
Delegates should have knowledge of the interventions policy in use within their establishment and a basic understanding of SIMS.

SIMS Discover Standard Analysis

Course overview

SIMS Discover enables schools to analyse their SIMS data and present it in a variety of ways, including Venn diagrams, bar charts, pie charts and line graphs. Learn how to drill down into your data and analyse it efficiently on this half day course.

Benefits of attending

Learn how to enhance the analysis of data in your school by using SIMS Discover.

What you will learn

• creating Venn diagrams and filtering by year, key pastoral factors, attendance, behaviour and end of key stage assessments
• working with data from previous academic years
• creating student groups based on the information provided by Discover; using these dynamic groups in SIMS, on the SIMS Home Page, in Attendance and as Assessment marksheet filters
• defining and setting up dynamic group ‘alerts’ to be able to track when students join and leave a dynamic group (for example for tracking persistent absentees)
• using SIMS user defined groups in Discover.

Who is it for?

Staff who use SIMS and who wish to enhance their data analysis skills by using the powerful graphical analysis tool, SIMS Discover.
